State Electric Contributes to the Brad D. Smith Center for Business and Innovation

State Electric contributed to the new Brad D. Smith Center for Business and Innovation at Marshall University by funding the establishment of a modern podcasting center. This donation will provide students and faculty with a technologically equipped space designed to foster digital media skills and enhance communication studies.
The official dedication ceremony for the Brad D. Smith Center for Business and Innovation, located at 1425 4th Ave. in Huntington was on April 10, 2024. The center is a significant addition to the university, housing the Lewis College of Business and featuring state-of-the-art facilities such as a 360-seat auditorium, a finance lab with Bloomberg terminals, and classrooms equipped with the latest educational technologies.
The dedication ceremony was a landmark event, celebrating the contributions of multiple donors, including a significant $25 million donation from Marshall President Brad D. Smith and his wife, Alys Smith. Other notable contributions included $1.8 million from Encova Insurance for the auditorium and substantial donations from local businesses for other parts of the facility. The center aims to enhance business education by promoting teamwork, innovation, and integration with the local economy.
This initiative not only marks a pivotal moment for Marshall University but also signifies a strengthening of the community-university relationship, providing a hub for both educational excellence and community engagement.
